Since I was little, I have always looked at the sky with fascination, imagining the incredible mysteries that the Universe holds.

I recently discovered 10 unbelievable facts about the Universe that I simply have to share with you!

    1. The Universe is expanding at an accelerated rate

The Universe is not only expanding, but it is also doing so faster and faster due to dark energy, a mystery not yet completely unraveled by science.

    2. There are more stars than grains of sand

It's hard to imagine, but scientists estimate that there are more stars in the Universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches on Earth. Amazing, isn't it?

    3. A day on Venus is longer than a year there

Venus rotates so slowly on its axis that a single day there lasts longer than a full Venusian year, which is the time it takes to orbit the Sun.

    4. Shooting stars are not stars

Those bright streaks we see in the sky are actually small pieces of space rocks entering Earth's atmosphere.

    5. Black holes are not real holes

They are objects with such strong gravity that not even light can escape them. The name comes from the fact that they look like dark “holes” in space.

    6. The Sun is an average star

Our star, despite appearing enormous to us, is just an average star among billions of much larger ones in the Universe.

    7. It takes time for starlight to reach us

When we look at the stars, we are seeing the past, as light takes years, or even billions of years, to reach Earth.

    8. There are planets made of diamonds

In space there are planets composed largely of carbon, under extreme pressure, forming true diamond planets!

    9. The space is completely silent

With no atmosphere to transmit sound, space is absolutely silent. This is why explosion scenes in space movies are unrealistic.

    10. We are literally made of stardust

The chemical elements that make up our bodies were formed in ancient star explosions, which means we are literally made of stardust.

These curiosities changed my view of the Universe and I hope they also inspire you to look at the sky with more wonder.
